June 20, 2024 – Monthly Meeting – Rob Wallace – A (Much) Closer Look at Woodturning Tool Technique

Among the most important components of safe and efficient woodturning technique is the correct positioning of woodturning tools and how they interact with the material being turned.  This demonstration focuses on not just the “how” of woodturning tool use, but also explains the “why” to allow turners to fully understand the reasons behind tool positioning and the resulting shearing or scraping action produced by the tools.   Turners of all skill levels should find this demonstration helpful, whether they are trying to improve their own technique, or are teaching new turners the nuances of tool positioning and correct methods of tool use.

Rob Wallace will present an IRD via Zoom at St. Michael's Woodshop. The meeting and demonstration will also be available via Zoom for members who are not attending in person.  Zoom will open at 6:30 pm for informal discussions, and the meeting will begin at 7:00. Zoom information will be emailed to current FLWT members a few days in advance of the meeting.

Folks attending at St Michael's Woodshop should plan to arrive no earlier than 6:30, to ensure that the student program has finished for the day. Participants enter through the main entrance to sign in with building security.
