August , 15 2024 – Monthly Meeting – Peter Huckstep – Segmented Turning Opportunities

Peter Huckstep will be our August demonstrator at St Michael's Workshop. Peter will demonstrate turning the center photo piece. With 40 years of woodworking experience and nine years dedicated to woodturning, Peter Huckstep has developed a passion for turning flat wood into stunning segmented forms. His journey began with the challenge of finding large enough wood pieces for his projects, which led him to discover the art of segmenting at an AAW meeting. Inspired by a craftsman in AR, Peter immersed himself in learning through YouTube, articles, and hands-on practice. In this demonstration, Peter will share valuable tips and tricks for all skill levels, showcasing the design, cutting, gluing, and assembly processes, including his efficient jig for quick ring glue-ups. He aims to inspire others to explore the patience-demanding yet rewarding world of segmented woodturning.

The meeting and demonstration will also be available via Zoom for members who are not attending in person.  Zoom will open at 6:30 pm for informal discussions, and the meeting will begin at 7:00. Zoom information will be emailed to current FLWT members a few days in advance of the meeting.

Folks attending at St Michael's Woodshop should plan to arrive no earlier than 6:30, to ensure that the student program has finished for the day. Participants enter through the main entrance to sign in with building security.
