Finger Lakes Woodturners May 2016 Meeting
Finger Lakes Woodturners will hold our regular May club meeting on Thursday, May 19th. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm with a show and share of members work. A quick business meeting will commence at 6:45pm. Following the business meeting we will have our featured event.
This month we will feature FLWT Member Albert Filo, and the topic of his presentation is “Embellishment of Hollow Vessels with an Open Spiral Design and Offset Turning”
Albert will share his methods for laying out the patterns for embellishing Hollow Vessels with an open Spiral Design. This is a very lengthy process so the vessel will be turned prior to the meeting. The lines necessary for the layout of the spiral pattern will also be drawn prior to the meeting due to the need for an indexing system. The entire process will be outlined and methods of cutting and forming the lines will be demonstrated.
The second part of the discussion will center on the topic of Offset Turning. Albert will be discussing the jig he used to turn the geometric patterns used for the offset patterns.
This should be quite a treat to learn a unique embellishment technique. Spirals of any form are interesting, but on a bowl form they are quite unique. Albert will provide us with all of the knowledge we need to try these on our own. This is our last club meeting of this season, so don’t miss this opportunity to see all of your woodturning friends and to learn an interesting embellishment technique as well…we hope to see everyone at the meeting!
