Finger Lakes Woodturners December 2017 Meeting

The next meeting is on Thursday December 21, and it will begin at 6:00pm with a show and share of members work, followed by a short business meeting that will commence at 6:30pm. This meeting will also be our informal holiday celebration and members are encouraged to bring a light snack or appetizer to share, and the club will supply cider, cups, plates, napkins, etc.

Our featured demonstrator for the December 2017 meeting of Finger Lakes Woodturners is Scott Grove, and his topic is Alternative Inlay and Embellishment Techniques.

By adding a fine detailed accent, inlays can take your work to the next level. Fine woven patterns and decorative designs can be created with just about any material to add just the right touch of WOW! and introduce an entirely new creative aesthetic to your turning projects.

In this demonstration, Scott will cover a wide spectrum of materials and techniques for a variety of alternative inlays, from fine silver wire filigree to natural translucent minerals, UV cured resin, mother of pearl, turquoise, glow in the dark pigments and synthetic stone.

Advanced layering techniques used to create depth and translucency will also be covered.

The folks who attend the meeting should come away with several areas of learning, including:
· A wide range of inlay possibilities
· Techniques, tools and suppliers for various inlay techniques
· Ideas for alternative inlays and how to implement them
· Inspiration for accenting their own work
· Resources to further their education

Additional information about Scott’s background and experience is available at his web site which is scottgrove.com
