Al Stirt will be visiting Finger Lakes Woodturners on May 18 – 20. Our regular meeting will be on Friday May 18 instead of the usual third Thursday.

There is a description and picture of the various topics which Al will be demonstrating available to download here. The following paragraphs describe which topic(s) will be covered during each of the sessions during the weekend. You can read more about Al Stirt’s background and experience at his web site.

Friday evening demonstration – Al will demonstrate the Open Bowl project, Topic #1, in the download file.

Saturday All Day Demonstration (sign-in at 8:30 and the program runs from 9am to about 4pm. Lunch can be ordered from Subway for $10 at sign-in) – Al will cover three or four of the remaining projects listed in the download file #2 – #5, including:

1. Sgraffito platter
2. Square and textured platter
3. Textured and painted platter/bowl
4. Fluting and carving to add texture to bowls

Please register to attend the Saturday workshop, and you can pay via PayPal, or you can register and pay in person at the Friday meeting.

Sunday Hands On Workshop (sign-in at 8:30 and the program will run from 9 to about 4pm. Lunch can be ordered from Subway for $10 at sign-in.) – The Sunday hands on workshop, for up to 10 participants will work on the Open Bowl Project. We will supply the necessary wood blanks for participants, or you are welcome to bring your own blanks. The details will be provided to any of the participants who register for the workshop.
